Please consult with provincial statutes such as the Islands Trust Act, and the Local Government Act, for the most up-to-date references.

Maps are not always attached as part of a bylaw published on our website. If you require maps or schedules (which form part of a bylaw), please contact one of our planning offices.

CRD Bylaws

Noise

Noise bylaws are in effect to ensure the peace and enjoyment of residents of the CRD. Certain types of activity, such as construction, are restricted by time of day. After regular office hours, the RCMP responds to noise complaints. Bylaw 3378 (PDF)

Unsightly Premises

This bylaw ensures that residents do not have to tolerate unsightly premises in their community. The bylaw has provisions to ticket offenders or take them to court and force them to clean up their property. In some cases, the CRD may remove items and send a bill for clean-up to the property owner. Bylaw 1887 (PDF)

Soil Deposit & Removal

This bylaw protects the integrity of soil and geological landscapes. A permit is required to remove or deposit large amounts of solid or other materials (i.e. soil, rock, gravel). Failure to obtain a permit may result in Bylaw Enforcement taking legal action against offenders.

Building Regulation

Building Inspectors do regular inspections of buildings under construction, ensuring the safety and integrity of buildings and structures in the region. If bylaw provisions are not been met, they will give owners time to comply, and if they fail to do so the file will be turned over to Bylaw Enforcement Officers to take appropriate legal action. Bylaw 2990 (PDF)

Civic Addressing

The house numbering bylaw regulates the requirement to assign a house number and adequately display a civic address. Bylaw 3201 (PDF)

Composting Facilities Regulation

This bylaw applies to composting facilities in the Capital regional District and regulates the types and quantities of organic matter to be composted each year in a solid waste compost facility. Odour, leachate, vector, litter and dust management are also regulated.
