Welcome to the Mayne Island Local Trust Committee Web Page for the years 2006 until 2008. Your two elected officials hope that this site will provide local residents and property owners with any information you need affecting land use issues on your property, or Mayne Island in general. The current term for your two Trustees is Dec. 1, 2005 until Dec. 1, 2008.

At this time the Local Trust Committee is also comprised of our Chair, Gary Steeves, ( ). Gary is from North Pender Island. Our planner is Gerry Hamblin, ( ) or 405-5158. Gerry works out of the Islands Trust office which is located in Victoria.

This web page is a new initiative of the Local Trust Committee and we will ask for your patience and suggestions as we add items of interest and importance to the community. The Mayne Island Local Trust Committee is responsible for land use planning on Mayne Island, and we are also part of a larger group which is the Islands Trust Council. The Council is made up of 26 local Trustees elected from 13 Islands. Information on the Islands Trust and Trust Council can be found at their web page, www.IslandsTrust.bc.ca

Associated Islands
Most of the Local Trust Areas consist of a major island and several smaller associated Islands. Associated islands in the Mayne Island Trust Committee Area include: Curlew Island and Georgeson Island

Local Trust Committee Membership
Each local trust committee has three members - two locally elected trustees, and one Executive Committee member who serves as Chairperson. A local trust committee is responsible for land use planning and regulation for its area of jurisdiction. As such, its responsibilities include preparation and adoption of official community plans, rural land use bylaws, zoning and subdivision bylaws, regulation of soil removal and deposit, and authorization of permits.
